August 2016 workouts

WOW, I have surely been out of it with the changes in my life. We found out at the end of July 2016 that we were pregnant! We had been trying for the better part of a year, so this was excellent news for me. As you can see below, I did not get a chance to do much in August, but I did do some.

I want to get my workouts up to date, so here we go!! Back to August 2016...

August 4th: Today I did 1.50 miles on the track inside. I did it in 13:09, which gives me a pace of 8:46, not too bad! Then I walked a lap (1/8 of a mile) in 2:01, which is a walking pace of 13:27. Once I got done, I used a 20 inch box to do the following:

10 inclined push-up knee ins
20 inclined legs butt lifts
10 each leg side plank knee to opposite elbow
20 plie squats
10 each leg inclined one knee bent other leg lifted butt lift with additional leg lift
80 mountain climbers (20 regular, then 20 extreme side to side, then repeat both)
10 each leg donkey kicks
100 shimmies

All of this took me 10:23 to complete. It was a great workout!

August 6th: Today I did a 10:00 minute HIIT workout

August 25th: Today I walked 1 mile in 17:22 and then did a quick 4:36 HIIT

Check out my September workouts next!

July 2016 workouts

Welcome to the dead of summer!!! It is crazy hot right now, so most of my workouts will be turned to the inside track and treadmill. Time for some muscle building! Check out what happened for me in July:

July 4th: Today I decided I NEEDED a good run, so I got up from bed on this day off and ran. It was hot and hard, but I got 1.61 miles in around my neighborhood. I ran this in 14:47, which is a pace of 9:09. Not too bad considering the conditions. Then I went inside and got a good 9:00 HIIT in where I did 50 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest. It was hard, but I treated it like I was starting over and did my best.

July 5th: Today I needed 2.50 miles on the track. Just because it was hot does not mean my miles cannot still be done. I ran 2.50 miles in 20:53, which is a pace of 8:21! I love these kids of runs because it makes me feel so fast! If I had not already ran a 5K in 26:21 pacing 8:30 outside, I wouldn't believe it! Once I got done, i hit the weights and focused on arms and legs doing should press, curls, flys, plie squats, dead lift squats with a bar, and dumbbell squats straight. Then I got one included set of leg lifts and my abs were on FIRE!! I did this workout for 7:42.

July 8th: I ran on the beach today. We did 1 mile total, but after each 0.25 of a mile we stopped and 15 squat jumps. We did this mile and 60 squat jumps in 10:50. Then we went inside and did weights for 15:46.

July 9th: Still enjoying the beach, we went for a leisurely bike ride with the family. We went 8.83 miles in 1:11:17, it was fun!

July 12th: I ran 1.28 miles outside and then walked/ran 0.59 of a mile in 6:53. When I was done sweating to death, I went inside and did a 7:32 HIIT workout. You can view my route here

July 18th: Today I worked out after work because I had Khloe and no time at lunch so I modified my workout. First, I ran a warm up mile in 9:26. Then, I did some push-ups, side to side lunges, pull ups, and then squats. But, this time when i did the squats, Khloe got on my back! it was the best 51.8 pounds I had ever added to a squat workout! Check us out...aren't we cute workout buddies!

July 19th: Today I did a warm up run on the track inside (so it would be cool) in 8:06 and then did a wonderful 7:39 HIIT workout.

July 21st:  Today I did a 1.50 run on the treadmill in 13:14, a pace of 8:49 and then did a 7:01 HIIT workout.

July 28th: Today i was taking it easy since it had been a week, so I did 1 mile on the treadmill in 8:52 and then walked for 2:16 to cool down. From there I went in to an arms workout and took 8:54 to get my 3 sets in.

July 29th: Today I did 1 mile on the treadmill again, but this time I did it in 8:48. Then I worked on legs and some arms for 7:06, doing 2 sets.

July was really hot and made me take it inside! I hope for a nice fall time soon where I can get back outside for these workouts! Here is to the next workout! Until then...

June 2016 Workouts

June is here and June is HOT!! WOW, it is getting harder and harder to run outside without feeling like I am drowning! But here are my workouts that I have muddled through!

June 2nd: 1.08 miles on the outside track in 10:08, then we did a 10:51 HIIT workout, then ran 0.54 miles on the track in 4:41, and then finally a cool down walk of 0.15 miles in 3:04.

June 4th: I ran 1.00 miles on the track inside in 8:08 then did a boot camp class with my sister-in-law for 52:58. This kicked my behind!!

June 7th: I did a 15:01 HIIT workout at home

June 8th: I did a 15:03 HIIT workout at home

June 10th: I ran 2.01 miles outside in the neighborhood in 18:16 (a 9:07 pace). MAN it was super hot outside and then the bottom fell out!! I did hills today and I think it messed with my knee...

June 11th: I played in a softball tournament from 8:30am to 11:00pm! Thank goodness we won so it was worth it! I played 5 hour long games and was very worked!

June 13th: I ran 1.16 miles in 10:43 (a 9:16 pace) and had to stop. My knee was killing me! I decided to walk/jog for 0.52 miles and did that in 5:57 (an 11:32 pace), then I went inside and did a short 7:15 HIIT being careful on my knee. I think I need new shoes...

June 15th: Today I practiced on my bike on the Trace for the ride I will do Saturday. You can view my route hereThen I took my time walking back to the Payne Center, a 7:10 walk to cool down. This was the first time in a year I have ridden my bike. Yes I have done spin classes, but it is not the same! I did 10.68 miles in 36:18, which is a 3:23 per mile, which is not terrible for the first time out in a year! my ride Saturday will be 20 miles, so I "should" be able to ride it in 1:12:46 or less, so I will shoot for 1:10:00...it all depends on the hills!

June 16th: I ran 2.02 miles outside today in 18:38 (a 9:12 pace). It was so hot I could barely breathe. Looks like I may have to take it inside from now on for a good long run.

June 18th: Ride Yellow bike ride *separate post*

June 20th: I ran on the track today for 2 miles in 16:13, that's an 8:06 pace! It is crazy how fast I can do that inside on a flat surface! Haha They I did a 10:20 HIIT workout.

June 23rd: I ran 1.56 miles outside, bad idea, in 14:05 with a pace of 9:03. Then I went inside (where it was cool) and did a HIIT workout in 10:03.

June 24th: I ran outside today, thinking it was "cool" again! Wrong! I did 2.39 miles in 21:52 which is a 9:34 pace. I was out of time and energy when I got done, so this was all I did today.

June 28th: I ran outside again (I know, I'm crazy) and did 1.50 miles in 13:38 (a pace of 9:05). Then I walked to the Payne Center for 0.21 of a mile in 3:01 (a walking pace of 14:34). Then once inside, I did a HIIT workout for 5:31 focusing on abs!

June 29th: Today I too my run to the treadmill. I was tired of not being able to get very far outside and today I did 2.50 miles in 22:19, a pace of 8:56. I felt great, but had little time for anything else,s o I did a 5:02 HIIT workout and then had to go!

June 30th: Today I ran on the treadmill for 2.00 miles and did it in 17:42, an 8:56 pace again! Then I did a 6:31 HIIT workout focusing on arms and abs.

That about wraps up my June! I had quite the workouts this month and hope to continue to trend in July! Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Ride Yellow 2016 - It's more than a bike ride

It is that time of year again, time for Ride yellow! I can never say enough of how honored I am to ride for those who are struggling with cancer and for those who lost the battle. Today, I rode for my mom and for Kamryn, like I have 3 other times. This year was their 10th anniversary and I am proud to say H ave participated 4 times now, 2012 (37 miles), 2013 (10 miles - I had a wedding to be in!), 2014 (37 miles), and 2016 (20 miles). This year, I rode the new 20 mile distance and it was awesome! It still got me at the end, but it was a great ride! Check me out before it began :)

I finished the 20 miles in 1:08:13, just 3 minutes and 47 seconds faster than I anticipated doing it in. After training just once (yikes) for this ride I figured I could do this 20 miles in 1:12:00, so goal beaten...CHECK! You can see my route here and you can view my finsher picture below :)

I am super excited to participate in this event each year and look forward to more events in teh years to come! Here's to the next workout! Until then...

April 2016 Workouts

April was finally here, time for the Half Marathon!! I started off the month strong with a half, but slowly transitioned into more lifting workouts and spin class. Check out my workouts:

April 2nd: Rise and Shine Half Marathon *separate post*

April 5th: Today I ran outside and did 2.50 miles in 22:42 with a pace of 9:05. then i did a HIIT for 9:21.

April 11th: Today was spin class day! I have not done s spin class in about a year! The class was 46:05 long and I did great! My bottom didn't even hurt when I got done :) My heart rate was a 117 average and I even peaked at 161!

April 13th: Today the goal was to run for 12 minutes, I ran on the treadmill and got to a distance of 1.35, that is a pace of 8:54. then I did a HIIT for 12:55.

April 18th: Today was another spin class Monday! The class was 47:07 long and I averaged a heart rate of 109 and peaked at 149. This tells me I didn't work as hard as I could have...

April 20th: Today I ran and did HIIT workouts, a total of 1.69 miles in 27:11 outside. I ran around the track and would stop after each lap to do HIIT workouts. This could be like a Spartan training day, so a pace of 16:05 is pretty darn good!

April 22nd: Today I ran 2.12 miles in 18:44, a pace of 8:51 around campus. Then I did a HIIT workout for 11:08.

April 25th: Today was the last spin class of April. The class was 42:05 long and my heart rate was an average of 105 with a peak of 145. Either my heart is getting more efficient, or I'm not working hard enough!

April 27th: Today's goal was a quick warm up run and then a good HIIT. We ran around the track 0.50 miles in 3:58 and then did a 12:16 true HIIT.

This was seemingly it for April. While it doesn't seem like much, I am still on track and doing good with my lifestyle change. Check out my continued progress:

I still have the abs, and my back is staying slimmed up! I will continue to eat right and workout! Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Rise and Shine Half Marathon

Today was the day. The day I have been training for for the past few months! I was ready to do this, ready to beat my time from last year, ready to be a better runner, ready to show me that I was better than...well, me! The morning was cool, but not terrible. I made sure to stretch really good and even participated in the warm-up that the race members offered.

Last year, 2015 I ran this race and it took me 2:32:18 with a pace of 11:37. I walked for the first time at 8.36 miles and then a gain at 10.10 miles. I was really tired during the 11.5 to 13.28 mile marks. It really bothered me that the race was longer than it should have been! However, based on previous performances I did run faster and kept a decent pace. I faltered in the last 2 miles where I sort of gave up. I really needed that 12 mile run. You can view my splits and my route here. My splits were pretty good, my first 3 miles were in 29:47, right on track for me. I didn't run slower than in the 10 minutes until mile 6, in the 12 minutes by mile 9, and in the 13 minutes mile 12 and 13.

This year, 2016 I was nervous. I only did 11 miles on a long run and still had to do that 2.1 (or 2.3) mile run after that. I ran 13.21 miles in 2:08:49 with a pace of 9:45!! You can view my splits and my route here. It is the same route :) WOW, my first 3 miles were in 26:04 and all in the 8 minutes zone. Miles 4 through 8 were in the 9 minutes zone, miles 9-11 were in the 10 minute zone, mile 12 ONLY was 11:20, then for mile 13 I dropped back down to the 10 minute zone! While I was running I began to realize that my 2:30:00 goal would definitely be beat, and the longer I ran I realized that my 2:15:00 (secondary goal) was very much attainable.

My 11 mile run last year was 2 hours and 2 minutes, my 11 mile practice run this year was 1:54:32, my 11 mile run during the race was 1:44:45! It was then that I knew even if I walked the last 2.21 miles that I WOULD beat my 2:15:00 goal! The next question was, by how much? I really lost speed in mile 12, but I reminded myself that I did not walk until I was at 10.20 miles. That was my longest consistent, no walk, run ever! I could do this! I gathered myself come mile 13 and pushed as hard as I thought I could. I finished the race in 2:08:50 (official time) and came in 8th in my age group, 42 in female runners, and 99th overall! To say i am proud would be an understatement. It made me realize that running this under 2 hours is actually doable for me! And will be my goal next year. I beat that girl from last year (ME) by 23:28...WOW...I am still amazed at myself! Here I am after I got both of my medals, one from the race and one homemade from the children of the Arc :). Here I am below during the beginning of the race and then about mid-way.

Here I am at the end of the race. I was tired, but not terrible. I love my medals and my time still amazes me!

Remember to never give up and to always believe you can do it! Here's to the next work out! Until then...
