Triathlon Simulation 2

Ok, triathlon simulation 2, there are no excuses and I know what to expect! I did the same format as the week before, 2 mile run to simulate a swim, 16.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run with a transition between each.

Run 1: (Swim) 2 miles in 18:36 This was a great pace! Check out my route here
Transition 1: 4:12
Bike: 16.50 miles in 58:20 (my best time yet for this distance!) Check out my route here
Transition 2: 2:09
Run: 3.1 miles in 38:08 Not my best time, but my legs were in pain! I decided that I would walk for 0.10 then run for at least that distance or longer. I finally built up to running most of the way come mile 2. It took me some time to get there though. Check out my run here

I completed this mock Triathlon in 1:55:04 (not counting transition, which totaled 6:21). So, total time was 2:01:25. I have got to work on my run! And, I will :)

This was a great 2 hour workout. I need to do these more often. The more your body becomes accustomed to a workout, the easier it will get!

Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Triathlon Simulation 1

My goal today was to simulate a Triathlon. I will run 2 miles to simulate a swim (since it will take me about 19 minutes to swim a 1/2 mile.) then bike 16.5 miles and then finish with a 3.1 mile run. Here's how I did:

2 mile run (swim simulation): 19:13 Check out my run here
Transition 1: 2:57 to get my bike out and prepare for the ride
Bike: 12.75 miles in 47:27. I began to give out so I decided since I had not biked in a while and this was my first time using my new aerobars, I would take it easy. My best mile was 3:20 and my slowest mile was 4:19. Not too bad...Check out my bike course here
Transition 2: 3:21
Run: I biked instead and went 3.89 miles in 14:24. My best mile was 3:34 and my slowest mile was 4:04. Check out my bike course here

I did a total of 16.39 miles in 1:21:04 (not counting transition times, which total 6:18). Not too bad for my first trial run!

Here are my new aerobars! I am super excited to get to use these and see how much faster i can be on my bike!

Today was hard, but I have to get more transitions in or I won't get better during my training. Here's to the next workout! Until then...

August workouts

Ok here goes...It seems, that "once again" I have let time slip away! I have many workouts to report on and just don't know where to start. So, here is another "month at a glance" for August!

August 1st: I ran outside on campus and it was beautiful :) I went 2.10 miles in 20:30. You can view my route here. I also walked out 0.11 miles to cool down in 1:57. You can view that route here

August 5th: My watch died on this run!! So, I only got 0.33 in my Garmin, but I knew it would happen so I turned on Map My Run! I ran 1.57 miles in 14:48. You can view my route here

August 7th: I had another breakthrough moment, I ran my first mile in 7:52! Here is my lap builder workout:
Ran 1 mile in 7:52!
10 reps each: push-ups, switch lunges, wall plank/knee-in, burpees, and squat jumps in 1:51
Ran 1 mile in 8:28
10 reps each: push-ups, switch lunges, wall plank/knee-in, burpees, and squat jumps in 1:55
My total time was 20:08 and I went 2 miles and did 100 reps! That was an intense workout!

August 11th: I ran on campus again...man was it hot! I went 2.01 miles in 19:32. I have 2 combined routes you can view here and here. I started walking and that's why I have 2 routes. I am not sure why I stopped my watch though...I paced 9:14 for the first 1.50 miles and did it in 13:56 and paced 10:55 on the last 0.51 miles and completed it in 5:36.

August 13th: I swam 1000 yards in the pool. I averaged 2:08 per 100 yards. I was proud of myself! I swam 1000 yards in 21:35 and 800 of that was in a row!

August 18th: I participated in an indoor spinning class for 45 minutes!

August 19th: I swam 1000 years in 22:00 flat! I swam 800 yards of that in a row!

August 20th: I did a lap builder inside today. Once again, I broke a record for my mile!
Ran 1 mile in 7:40
10 reps each: push-ups, switch lunges, wall plank/knee-in, burpees, and squat jumps in 3:32
Ran 1/4 mile in 2:18
10 reps each: push-ups, switch lunges, wall plank/knee-in, burpees, and squat jumps in 3:43
Ran 1/4 mile in 2:29
10 reps each: push-ups, switch lunges, wall plank/knee-in, burpees, and squat jumps in 4:04
Total distance was 1.75 miles in 23:49 and I did 150 reps!

August 21st: Spinning class! 45 minutes of sweat! It was great :)

August 23rd: I did a race simulation. *Separate entry on this.

August 25th: Spinning class for 45 minutes!

August 27th: I swam 1,003 yards! I did 900 of them straight! I am preparing for the 1/2 mile swim in the DC Triathlon on September 7th! I then swam 2x50 and did 1,003 yards in 21:50. I averaged 2:08 per 100.

August 28th: Spin class! 45 minutes of cardio

August 30th: Race day simulation again. *Separate post
