Well, today was the day. I did my long run of 11 miles. My goal was 2:07:00. My secondary goal was to hit the 2 hour mark at 10:80 miles. So...here is what I did:
11.01 miles in 2:02:56!! WHAT?!
I felt great! I drank at 4 miles, only walked for 0.12 of a mile to take my nitro at mile 7, then walked for 0.20 at mile 9.20. I hit my 9.5 miles at 1:44:00, I hit 10 miles at 1:50:00! I was at 10.75 miles at 2 hours! I almost hit all of my goals and I got those 5 minutes back that I had been lacking! I paced 11:10 on the whole and my slowest mile was mile 10 at 12:33. I even picked it up in the last mile! You can view my route and splits here. I am very proud of myself! I only hope that I do as good in the half scheduled for April 5th. I just want to duplicate this run and then add 2.1 miles!
Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Atlanta Spartan Sprint
I cannot believe I forgot to post this!! Ok, so Tai and I did our first Spartan of the year in Atlanta...in March! Yes, there was ice on the ground...yes it was cold...yes we were half frozen for most of this race!
The course was 3+ miles...which equated to 5.15 miles and there were a total of 29 obstacles! We had 29 obstacles in the Dallas Beast and it was 13.6 miles! Needless to say, we were stacked on obstacles!
Here I am right before I had to hand over the hoodie and warmth!
I even got me a new pair of shoes (a much needed treat). These Vibrams were great for everything except the last wall you walk up with the rope...I slipped 4 times and this was the first Spartan where I did not complete that obstacle.

And...here we are after! Haha we were so dirty! My clothes still look like they need to be washed!

We completed the 5.15 miles in 2:20:21! Not too bad for how cold it was! Here we are before we got messy dirty! You can view our route here.

We had so much fun! I did everything except the rope climb and the last wall I kept sliding down. I'd say this was one of the harder ones we have done! But, it was so much fun! In May we will be double dipping with both a Sprint and Super in Austin! haha Are we crazy...yes we are!!
Here's to the next workout! Until then...

March Half Marathon Training Runs
Here are some March runs for my half marathon training!
March 4th: It was finally sunny outside, so I took advantage! I didn't get to run far, but I ran! I ran 2.51 miles in 24:46 outside :) I paced 9:51, which was right no target for me! Check out my route and heart rate here.
March 7th: Atlanta Spartan Sprint - separate post!
March 10th: I needed to ease back into things after that Spartan! I started out at a 5.5 on the treadmill to get back in the groove and worked my way up to 6.0 by the end of 2.10 miles. I ran 2.10 miles in ??, which is a ?? pace. Then I did a HIIT workout on arms and abs! Here is what I did:
10 butterflies 7.5lbs in each hand
10 military press-ups 7.5lbs in each hand
10 right arm tricep kick-backs 7.5lbs
10 left arm tricep kick-backs 7.5lbs
10 squats and dumbbell raise 15lbs
50 bicycles
30 second plank
10 wall-sits with ball raise 8.8lbs
March 13th: I did a treadmill run of 2.10 miles in 24:33 and then did a Body Rock routine.
100 Russian twists in 1:11
50 Bicycles in 0:34
in 0:39
20 wall sit ball raises (8.8lb) in 0:28
Check out my heart rate here.
March 17th: Today I decided to do my 8.5 mile run on campus. I had a difficult run on this day. I did a lot of stop and go and ended up running this in 1:34:49. My goal was to be at 1:28:00 for this run, so I am about 5 minutes slow. But, I still paced at 11:09 on the whole, which was not terrible. I just think I started too fast and couldn't' sustain it. You can check out my route and heart rate here. My worst mile was mile 7 at 13:48. I was tired and my knees and hips were hurting. I made notes and will adjust my run for next time!
March 19th: I did a recovery run today and only did 2.23 miles on campus in 23:00. I paced at 10:19 per mile. You can check out my route here. I was still sore, but it felt good to stretch run.
March 22nd: Today I decided to do my 9.5 mile run in my neighborhood and surrounding area. I was excited and got off to a great start, then...at 4.5 miles I walked to take my nutrition and drink water. This was a bad idea! I walked for 0.50 of a mile and ruined my run! I struggled the rest of the 4.5 miles until I finished. But still, I paced 11:38 on the whole and finished 9.5 miles in 1:50:34. My goal for this run was 1:45:00. So, again, I was 5 minutes slow. You can view my route here. Then, I did a 0.50 mile cool down walk in 8:31 to complete today at 10.0 miles. You can view that route here. If I added this to my total to make it 10.0 miles then I would have completed it in 1:59:05. I hope my next run is better than this! I really want to meet my goal of 2:30:00 for the 13.1 miles. We shall see!
March 25th: I am super impressed that I feel so good today! I decided to get a good 3 mile run in to stretch for my long run on Friday. Today, I ran 3.0 miles on campus in 29:17, which is a pace of 9:42. I felt good and it was so pretty outside! You can view my route here. I was super pumped about my run and I hope to keep up this enthusiasm since I only have 10 more days until the half!
March 27: 11 mile run - separate post

7 Mile Treadmill Run
I did not want to run today! I wanted to "pretend" that I didn't need this run. However, I told myself "something is better than nothing" and mustered up the energy to at least drive over to the Payne Center and get dressed. I was excited to get to run the outside course that I will be running in the half marathon on April 4th. I stepped outside and then...it started raining. Well...poo! I HAD to do a treadmill run. In my mind I was going to do an 8 mile run. I decided that since a treadmill can be tricky on long runs for me (and boring) I would see how I felt and do between 7 and 8. I finally had my new shoes and was so excited to try then out! I had already used them once outside, but this would be a good test for me. They were cushy (something I forgot I needed and loved out of my shoes). Check out my new shoes!
They are very comfy :) I have also bee using something new for the last 2 weeks. At first I wasn't sure if it was a placebo effect, or if it actually worked but after using it one day with a workout and a 3 hour total trip car ride at the end of my day and not being tired I realized it was awesome! My new special boost is Nitro by Young Living. It doesn't give you the up and down like say a 5 Hour energy because it is all natural, no fillers, no additives. It is actually good too! It keeps me going and even all day! Here is what they look like :)
I LOVE these! I take one at a bout 10:30am and then workout at lunch and eat a good meal after my workout and I am good all day!
Now, back to the treadmill run...I got on there and went to running. I stayed at a 6.0 pace and was doing good. I decided I was going to count songs on my playlist. "That would keep me focused" I thought. Then...it happened...at 3.11 miles the treadmill STOPPED! WHAT?! I did NOT do that! I lost my momentum...I quickly recovered and had to remember what song count I was on and my breathing. But, it was too late...I decided to walk at mile 4. After 0.25 of a mile I got back into the rhythm, but only put it back up to 5.9. I hung out there for a total of 2.88 miles and then BAM! The treadmill stopped AGAIN!!!! I had gone a total of 6 miles and I was mad that I had stopped again. I decided to do some interval runs, so I walked 0.12 then I ran 0.12 then I walked 0.12 and then ran to the end of 7 miles (0.64). I finished in 1:15:38. This was slower than my last half marathon training by 2:01! It was all because I had to walk. That is ok though, at least I did it! I was tired when I got done and very sweaty! I also got a nice new blister from the new shoes :) But in all...it was a great run!
I seem to find myself shedding quite a few pounds when I train for a half marathon. I am consistently 6-8 pounds lighter than I have been the past several months. I love it, but I want to be sure I am eating enough! I also think this time the Nitro is helping with my metabolism :) Check out my time on the treadmill!
