March 2016 workouts

March was a very busy month for me. We did a lot of traveling and I did my second 10K this month, all training for my half marathon set for April 2nd! Here are my workouts for this month:

March 2nd: I ran an .50 mile warm up on the treadmill in 4:30, a 9:00 minute pace, then did a 17:26 leg intensive HIIT, then finished with a 0.50 mile run on the track for a cool down in 4:00 minutes, an 8:00 minute pace!

March 8th: I ran 3.01 miles around campus in 27:41 (a 9:07 pace), then I did a HIIT workout for 11:02.

March 9th: I ran 2.00 miles on the track in 16:05 (an 8:03 pace), then did a HIIT workout for 10:00.

March 10th:  I didn't have much time today, so I only ran 1.10 miles on the treadmill in 9:42, then did a 9:32 HIIT workout.

March 12th: Today was a big run day. I ran 7.01 miles on campus in 1:05:53 (a 9:42 pace), then I walked/ran another mile to get to 8 total in 13:48. These two times together still were less than my 8 mile run last year! Check out my route here. I was super proud because I ran the whole 7 miles!

March 17th: We were on vacation and I really needed a 10 mile run here. However, I had not run for 5 days! And...we were on vacation...so I ran 9.01 miles instead in 1:34:29 (a 10:29 pace). I just couldn't get in to the run. I walked several times too. I did my "sorta" best and stuck it out for at least 9 miles and got the run in. You can view my Florida vacation route here

March 19th: Azalea Trail Run *Separate post*

March 21st: Today was more of a recovery run from the weekend. I ran 1.50 miles on the treadmill in 13:24 (an 8:52 pace), then I did a HIIT workout for 10:02.

March 24th: Today was another short run of just 2.00 miles outside in 17:54 (a pace of 8:56), then I did a HIIT workout for 11:03.

March 25th: Today was a big day. It was my 11 mile run day. This was a pivotal day as it would make or break my half marathon. I rally should do a 12 mile run, but I just didn't have the time...again! Here is my route for this run.  I ran 11 miles in 1:54:33, a pace of 10:25. I was super proud of this run! I only walked twice and still had a pretty good time! I was even ahead of my 11 mile run from last year. Check it out! I was at least 6 minutes faster than last year. My goal was to do the half in 2:30:00. Last year I did it in 2:31:52, not too far off! At this pace I was bound to beat it...but would I be able to possibly do my secondary goal of 2:15:00.

March 29th: This week is the week of the half, so shorter runs will be all I do. Today I did a 3.20 mile run on campus in 29:00 (a 9:03 pace), then dis a short 5:02 HIIT workout.

March 31st: Today I ran 2.52 miles on campus in 22:36 (an 8:58 pace), then did a HIIT for 8:11. I am super pumped for the half in just 2 days!

Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Azalea Trail Run 2016

Here I was...ready to do it...ready to beat that girl from last year...well from 2 years ago! Last year I was training for the half marathon at this time and it was a long run weekend. Here is where I have been in this race the other 3 times I have run it:

2011 race: 6.20 in 1:20:48, a pace of 13:00

2013 race: 6.20 in 1:03:50, a pace of 10:16

2014 race: 6.20 in 1:03:54, a pace of 10:17

2016 race: 6.21 in 56:00, a pace of 9:00 (official time)!

WHAT?! This was insane! My goal was to break the hour mark for this race and I finally did it! I was so super proud of myself for this accomplishment! Check out the route here. I even got an achievement on Garmin for this run, my fastest 10K! And, I was right on target for my last 10K that didn't quite make the total distance. Check me out after the race!

This was such a milestone for me. I have worked so hard with my lifestyle changes to get to this point. My goal is never to beat someone else, but rather to beat myself. Here's to the next workout! Until then...
