5K Turkey Trot for Hope in Mobile, AL

I woke up unsure if I wanted to run the race. I had even driven to Mobile the night before and paid my registration Friday night! Still, I wasn't sure. But, I got up, went and had a blast! I did the 3.1 miles in 29:03! Check out that time! I even represented the Beast shirt!

You can check out my route here. I ran a pace of 9:13. I really did good pacing myself for most of the race! I thought I did a good job :) You can even check out that sprint at the end! I paced a 5:29! I wish I had that for 3 miles! I enjoyed getting out in the brisk morning air, at least it was 23 degrees warmer than last year!!

Here's to the next workout! Until then...

Mississippi Spartan Sprint

This was by far the moment of my year...what I was waiting for! Completing this race would give me the Trifecta I was striving for all year! So, here it was...my lat "3 plus miles" year right...it was 4.97!! We did this crazy Sprint, 4.93 miles in 1:52:06! Check out that watch picture! This one was really tough!

Check out the map of the course! We did 6 obstacles in the first 0.5 miles! You can view our route here. We were ready, it was a bit cold, but no worries...they sprayed us with water right when we started and then made us stand there for a bit! Haha

Even the little ones came! Khloe got to do her first Spartan today!!

We did everything like other races, but here...in MS...it is way more MUDDY!! We did the barbed wire crawl, log carry, wall climbs, inverted walls, Hercules hoist, wall crawl, sandbag carry, and lots of water!

Tai and I were ready. Here we are with our Super and Beast medals...waiting to complete the circle! Below, here we are finishing the barbed wire crawl and jumping over the fire!

It felt so good to get that medal! But, our work was not yet done! We made it for the 12:30 slot for the kids, so Khloe and Gray did their Spartan too!

Check out my baby girls medal!!This was a great family affair! We got muddy, sore, and full of medals!!

The moment I was waiting for was this...the Trifecta! This made me a bit emotional, but it was worth the pain and endurance I withstood this year to get it! I encourage those who are unsure, or think this isn't for me. You can do anything you set your mind too. You mind can guide you, or beat you down! Don't be your own worst enemy!

Here's to the next workout! Until then :)

November Workouts

Welcome November! Here is what I got done this month:

November 1: Dallas beast! I have a separate post for this one

November 8th: Mississippi Spartan Sprint! I have a separate post for this too :)

November 11th: I did a recovery walk/run around campus since I had just done 2 Spartans in 2 weeks! I ran 3.00 miles in 31:52, which is a pace of 10:37 per mile. I ran 1.5 miles in 14:27, then I walked 0.25 of a mile in 3:39, then ran the 1.00 mile in 9:58, then walked the last 0.25 miles in 3:48. You can view my workout here.  It was a great way back into working out normally!

November 17th: Today I did lap builders on the treadmill. I ran a half a mile at a time and did reps in between totaling 1.5 miles and 150 reps.  Here is my workout:

Ran 0.5 of a mile in 4:03
10 each of push-ups, squats with 15lb dumbbell lift, butterflies with 10lbs in each hand, tuck jumps, and swith lunges
Ran 0.5 of a mile in 4:05
10 each of push-ups, squats with 15lb dumbbell lift, butterflies with 10lbs in each hand, tuck jumps, and swith lunges
Ran 0.5 of a mile in 4:07 10 each of push-ups, squats with 15lb dumbbell lift, butterflies with 10lbs in each hand, tuck jumps, and swith lunges

I loved this work out! People look at you funny, but it sure makes a puddle of sweat when you get home! haha I didn't have my watch today, but that's ok! I still did it.

November 19th: I did lap builders today. I ran a half a mile then did reps for a total of 2 miles and 180 reps. Here is my breakdown:

Ran 0.5 miles in 4:19
10 each of push-ups, squats with a 15lb dumbbell lift, switch lunges, wall plank with knee in, knee in to hand with 5lb weight left, knee in to hand with 5lb weight right in 3:25
Ran 0.5 miles in 4:16
10 each of push-ups, squats with a 15lb dumbbell, switch lunges, wall planks with knee in, knee in to hand with 5lb weight left, knee in to hand with 5lb weight right in 2:58
Ran 0.5 miles in 4:27
10 each of push-ups, squats with a 15lb dumbbell, switch lunges, wall planks with knee in, knee in to hand with 5lb weight lrft, knee in to hand with 5lb weight right in 3:10
Ran 0.50 in 4:30

This was a crazy intense workout! I was soaked with sweat! But, I loved it. You can view my workout here

November 24th: I ran/walked a total of 3 miles. I began with a 1.51 mile run in 14:52, which is a pace of 9:51 per mile. You can vie that workout here. Then, I walked for 0.50 miles in 7:12 and finished running 1.11 miles in 10:51. You can view that part of my workout here. I am trying to do a better job at pacing myself and staying in my target heart rate zone. This kind of workout is harder for me because I have to make myself walk!!

November 27th: Turkey Trot for Hope 5K. I have a separate post for this one :)

Well, that about does it for November! I did quite a bit, just more at one time rather than spread out! Here's to the next month and the next work out!

Dallas Spartan Beast 2014

As we drove through the beautiful hillside of mid-Texas we began to realize what Saturday would hold for us! There were amazing views, beautiful landscapes, and some tough terrain.

We stayed at Rough Creek Lodge and it was AMAZING! Seriously, if you are a hunter, or just want a relaxing place to get away, this is the place! Check out our digs!

It was a cold morning, only 47 degrees and windy. But, numb toes and all, we made it to the event and did our best! We started off entering right into the water. Water that we soon realized was littered with dead floating fish!! That made us move a little faster! Here is the course map...it  was intense to say the least!

We finished this 12.69 mile race in 5:04:09! Our goal was to do each mile in about 15 to 20 minutes. We were not too far off from that.

Check out our route here.  We did everything...the tire flip, log flip, barbed wire crawl, walls, inverted walls, sandbag carry, swam about 200 yards, and ran...a lot, and so on and had so much fun doing it! Check us out:

Those tires were beastly! But fun to flip! We ran a lot...and then...ran more!

I was really excited for this swim! I had just come off of a Triathlon 2 weeks before, so I was good and ready for a swim! This was about 200 yards.

We stayed together the whole time and helped each other out!

Triumph! Check out that form on the fire jump! haha

We had so much fun at this race! It really wasn't that bad. yes, we were sore afterwards. Yes, we got a massage the next day. But, it was such a great experience! I definitely want to do it again next year! :)

Here's to the next workout! Until then...
