So, an 8K...seems funny huh? I know I have run many 5K's and a few 10K's, but I have not participated in an actual 8K. How far is that, just 5 miles! No big deal, right? I have run that before in training. But, this time...I am going to quit thinking of 3 miles as a minimum. And stop thinking about 10 minutes as an acceptable pace! 3 miles has become my new 1 mile run. I "know" I can run 3 miles. Just like I used to "know" I could run a mile.
Well, today was day 1 and for the next 3 weeks I will be training for an 8K. I ran 2.32 miles today for 2 reasons. 1) I did not have enough time to run more and 2) I did not want to over exert myself since I had not worked out in about 3 weeks! I needed time for my body to rest after the Triathlon and Spartan race!
So, 2.32 miles...I ran it in 22:25, which gave me a pace of 9:39/mile. The real break down is this: mile 1 - 9:11, mile 2 - 9:49, 0.32 - 10:14. I started out too fast; a problem I have often! You can view my route here. My goal is to become more of a 9:00 to 9:15 per mile runner, which is a very attainable goal. This will also help me with my Triathlon next year. I have to shave minutes off somewhere and the best place is my running! I was glad I got up and actually went today...I almost talked myself out of it!
Remember...if you want to be lazy, workout instead. It may just be your best workout! Here's to the next workout! Until then :)
